Deluxe Chicken Coop
A Backyard Chicken Coop That’s Both Practical and Beautiful
With the rising cost of eggs, more and more families are turning to backyard chickens as a way to become more self-sufficient—and save a little money in the process. One of our recent customers made the leap for exactly that reason. But she didn’t want just any run-of-the-mill coop from the local farm supply store. She had something better in mind: a well-built, attractive structure that would stand the test of time and look great in her yard.
From the beginning, she came to us with a clear vision. She needed a chicken coop that could comfortably house 15 to 20 chickens and wanted a design that would make egg collection simple enough for her kids to help out. It was important that the structure be not only functional, but also family-friendly and built with care.
Custom-Built to Meet Her Needs
Working closely with her, we designed and constructed a custom coop that checked every box. The entire structure sits on a sturdy platform, supported by pressure-treated posts for long-lasting durability. For the platform floor, we used ¾-inch plywood, providing a solid base that can handle daily use.
The coop’s siding is made from ½-inch T1-11, a dependable and weather-resistant material that blends well with rural aesthetics. We finished it with 1×3-inch trim and durable steel hardware to ensure strength and a clean look.
To make daily use easier, we included a full-sized man door on one side and a chicken door on the other. The coop also features two 12×18-inch windows that allow for natural light and ventilation. One of the most convenient elements is the hinged roof over the five nesting boxes, allowing easy egg collection without needing to step inside. The entire roof is finished with asphalt shingles for weather resistance and durability.
Of course, like all our projects, this coop was built using traditional stick-frame construction, ensuring it’s not only beautiful but rock-solid.
Personalized Touches—and Room for More
In this case, the customer chose to paint the coop herself to match her personal style and the rest of her property. However, we also offer exterior painting services for anyone who prefers a turn-key solution.
Beyond that, we offer a variety of upgrades and custom features for those looking to go the extra mile with their chicken coops, including:
-
Pre-wiring for lights and power
-
Automatic chicken doors for added convenience and security
-
Interior cameras so you can keep an eye on your flock from anywhere
-
Latching feed bins for secure and organized storage
-
New chick nurseries to help you raise young birds safely

Whether you’re raising chickens for the first time or upgrading from a pre-fab setup, we’re here to help you build something that works—and looks great doing it.
